  On our tiny farm
 
Supporting healthy soil micro organisms soil is a primary focus. Lots of large compost piles!


 The heaps give us wheel barrows full of decomposed organic matter that help our crops produce healthy harvests!
 Our specialties include many  veggies like tiny, tender turnips, baby bok choy, mini lettuces, san marzano tomatoes, heirloom eggplants, arugula, pea tendrils and more
Transplanting some figs gifted to us was a big job


 Courtney and Bret saved the day helping us get it done!

After a few months we picked the first fruits!


Many of our crops start this way: hand seeded into our special farm made germinating mix


 The trusty old but never outdated wheel hoe helps to open a straight furrow to be filled with compost and transplants





When temps drop toward freezing we cover up

We love the riding mower and cart for big mulching tasks!
We have always been known for our mini lettuces and take pains to help them along.  Each planting gets a boost of liquid humate applied as a drench with a 3 gallon watering can.


From our first day out here and ever since we have been earth bound, using organic methods and inputs only

Good Bye Greens, Hello Tomatoes and Summer Squash!

June has arrived in Central Florida. Time to fill your kitchens with young tender zucchinis and tomatoes before the humid summertime air sets in. One nice thing about farming here in the south is that we get to grow squash and tomatoes again in the fall! So, we get a second harvest before we get our fall greens going. The mornings are still nice enough to do clean up around the farm. There are drip tapes to pull out, vines to cut away from our deer fence, wild primrose to pull and use for compost building. We just finished planting out all our hibiscus sabdariffa plants. It feels great to have that done, all those holes dug and filled with sifted compost, and then setting in the plants with care so they transition with as little stress as possible. The last of the hibiscus plants actually get set in the old lettuce beds in between lettuces going to seed.

T'is Hibiscus Flower Season Again!

Eye catching hibiscus sabdariffa calyces (often called "hibiscus flowers")  PLEASINGLY TART TASTING...WE HAVE HEAPS OF THEM!!!! These beauties come from the same plant that gave us sour leaves in the summer. You may hear them called Roselles, Rosellas, or Florida Cranberry. In all cases, we are referring to the red crisp and tart tasting calyx, peeled away from the seed pod inside and used in hot and cold teas, jams, jellies, sauces and syrups just to name a few favorite tasty creations. AVAILABLE NOW AT LOVE WHOLE FOODS IN ORMOND BEACH FL AND SOLD AT OUR FARMERS MARKET BOOTH IN ARTISAN ALLEY DELAND FRIDAYS 6-9PM. We highly recommend making jam with them.
