Alley Market

Hola gardeners! Nicki here, reporting in on the weekly Farmer’s Market in Artisan Alley, Deland. I have mixed feelings about helping out at the market. On the plus side, there are a lot of amazing products and foods and everyone is wonderfully friendly. On the other hand, there are a lot of amazing products and foods and buying it all just isn’t an option! To one side stand a baker couple. They’re good friends with Pauline and their breads, cakes, and cookies are organic and extremely tasty. On our other side are the best jams and jellies ever! My personal favorite is the raspberry but she doesn’t limit herself to the basics. There’s carrot cake and pepper and more! If you doubt me, you’ll just have to come down and try her samples. Directly across from Pauline’s Lucky Market Garden stand are three people; another cook with sauces, kale salad, chili, gluten free baking, and various other things that I can personally attest to being wonderful, another grower that carries a more exotic selection of sugar cane and star fruits and the like, and a nursery owner with amazing compost and what I think are walking sticks. Moving through the alley you’ll find citrus growers, candle, lotions, detergents, honey, spices, pickles, other veggie growers, and herb plants for you to grow. All of it is homemade and organic! Trust me, you have to come and see this. Fridays at 5-9 in Artisan Alley, Deland. See you there. :)

Lot's of love,
Nicki

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs!

Hello, hello fellow people. Today, while the A's were finishing up, I was turning compost. You know, layering the top, dry, brown stuff with the bottom, green, wetter stuff? While I'm new to the process and it was more of an arm workout than I've had in years, it's not that interesting. What was interesting was the little pill bugs that were swarming! Little grey insects with multiple segments and legs ALL OVER THE PLACE! It looked like I'd kicked an ant pile! Now, I'm not a big fan of bugs. My parents introduced me to SciFi early with shows like Star Trek and Stargate SG1, so instead of seeing harmless decomposes improving the soil, I saw miniature carnivores that would eat you from the inside out. NOT FUN! I was plenty happy to finish up and head to the warm, bug-less house to tell you bloggers about it!

Lot's of love,
Nicki
